Make-Your-Own Snack Mix That Tastes Like the Tropics

Tiki drinks might traditionally be served with pupu platters and other Polynesian delights, but this sweet-and-spicy snack mix would be just right alongside a Mai Tai or Piña Colada. Like Chex Mix on holidays, our blend contains plantain and banana chips, cashews and coconut, generously seasoned with chile-lime salt.—Jessica Battilana

Tropical Snack Mix

Makes about 4 cups

  • 1 cup plantain chips
  • 1 cup banana chips
  • 1 cup unsalted roasted cashews
  • 1 cup unsweetened large flake coconut
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp chile powder
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • Zest of 1 lime

Preheat the oven to 350°F. On a rimmed baking sheet, spread the plantain chips, banana chips and cashews. On a second rimmed baking sheet, spread the coconut. Transfer to the oven and bake, stirring occasionally, until the coconut is lightly toasted, for about 5 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, chile powder, salt and lime zest. Combine the toasted coconut, plantain chips, banana chips and cashews in a medium bowl. Add the olive oil and spice mixture and toss to coat.
