How to Make a Presbyterian

How to Cocktail: Presbyterian

This three-ingredient bourbon and ginger ale tipple is arguably the easiest drink in the world to create, but top San Francisco bartender Erik Adkins’ version, using a homemade ginger syrup, kicks it up a few notches. In this video, Adkins show you how to fix both.

Classic Presbyterian

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 oz Scotch (may substitute bourbon or rye whiskey)
  • Ginger ale
  • Club soda
  • Glass: Collins

PREPARATION:
Add the Scotch to a Collins glass and fill with ice. Fill with equal amounts of ginger ale and soda.

Hard Water Presbyterian

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 oz Club soda
  • 2 oz Old Forester Bourbon
  • .75 oz Lemon juice
  • .5 oz Ginger syrup (1 part sugar, 1 part ginger juice)
  • Garnish: Candied ginger
  • Glass: Collins

PREPARATION:
Fill a Collins glass with ice, add the club soda and set aside. Add the remaining ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake briefly and double-strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with a piece of candied ginger.

This second version has much in common with the Penicillin cocktail. Yes, not quite the same, but close enough.
