What’s better than a waffle? A waffle stuffed with ham and cheese and cooked on a hot iron until golden brown. For this ultimate brunch dish, we looked to the Monte Cristo sandwich for inspiration, recreating the diner standard by sandwiching grated cheese and ham between layers of waffle batter. Makes 6 waffles
In a bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, egg and oil. Heat up the waffle iron, pour a small amount of the batter on the iron, then top with some of the grated cheese and some of the ham strips. Pour a small amount of batter over the cheese and ham (the ham and cheese do not need to be completely covered). Close the waffle iron and cook until the waffle is browned and crisp for about 3 minutes. Repeat with the remaining batter, cheese and ham. Serve the waffles hot, dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by jam, if desired.
