Named after one of Brooklyn’s founders, Cornelius Van Brunt, and a main thoroughfare in the neighborhood of Red Hook, this stillhouse has been up and running since 2012. Offering grappa, moonshine, rum and four types of whiskey, the distillery sources ingredients from upstate New York farmers and maintains the mantra that a product made by familiar hands will always taste better than its mass-manufactured counterparts.
DON’T MISS THESE SPIRITS: Van Brunt’s first product, Due North rum, is still one of its finest, made with organic, unprocessed Himalayan sugar. Try the grappa made with Red Hook Winery grapes, or one of the five varieties of whiskey: American, single malt, bourbon, rye and smoked corn.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The Stillhouse tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday, and tours are offered on Saturdays from 3 to 7 p.m. Stop by for a cocktail anytime or book a tour in advance for the full experience.
