It used to be that Twisted Spoke was a destination at a time when not much else was around its urban island between River West and West Town. Now it’s 20 years later, the neighborhood has grown up around it and Twisted Spoke is a destination for big fat burgers, stacked Bloody Marys, an extensive beer list and, yes, a massive bourbon collection. The bi-level biker bar with its own skeleton-riding spinning motorcycle perched above the door welcoming guests and a sprawling deck overlooking Ogden and Grand avenues features more than 460 whiskies. Bourbons make up the bulk with 187 total, including some extinct bourbons like Mattingly and Moore, Red Clover, Grommes and Twisted Spoke 16-year Van Winkle, made in the late ’80s. Well, technically the Spoke has 188 bourbons, but one is so rare, it’s not on the menu. Just ask, in hushed tones, what it is. Whether you’re looking to quell your hangover or keep the party going, Twisted Spoke has what you need.
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
While it may not sound like your first choice, the Whiskey Sour made with Basil Hayden has been the top seller since 2008.
