“Chicago’s most intimate lounge” opened its doors in 1995 in an old brick tavern dating to Prohibition’s repeal. Shaped like a matchbook (the intended name got lost in translation), there’s barely standing room behind the row of barstools, which can be tricky to navigate after a few rounds. Classics are made with fresh juice and sweetened with powdered sugar, and sidecars of leftovers come standard, doubling your pleasure.

THE DRINK TO DRINK: Make it a Gimlet, with fresh-squeezed lime.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: During warm months, the patio opens up, increasing your chance of getting in.
