Speakeasy culture arrives in Astoria in fine fashion. Hidden behind a hardware storefront is this elegant boîte, featuring gilt mirrors, padded leather club chairs, secret call buttons and big red velvet curtains. The drinks menu goes well beyond pre-Prohibition era classics and offers adventurous imbibing for locals and destination drinkers alike.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Four Last Word riffs (dubbed House Words) provide the option of gin, genever, mezcal or Rhum Clément, mixed with Green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Co-owner Padraig O’Brien, a Queens native, earned his speakeasy stripes at Raines Law Room. Bar snacks include house-made jerky.
