From the street, all you see is a minuscule four-person bar and a handful of spirits on the back wall. All the action, though, is downstairs in this sort of reverse-speakeasy Upper West Side spot that has been reimagined into a neighborhood gastropub by Hell’s Kitchen veteran chef Rob McCue and bar manager Cody Goldstein (NYLO, Upholstery Store: Food and Wine). Rustic-industrial rules in a casual-stylish space deliberately intended to bring a bit of London and New York together. An overstacked Monk Burger sits alongside a Proper Scotch Egg and Shepherd’s Pie. The drink menu is fun and innovative but, like all of Goldstein’s menus, well-crafted and designed to please.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Goldstein has been making a name for himself with humorous Instagram-worthy drinks and glassware, like his snowglobe cocktail, the Last Christmas. You’ll find drinks that glitter and change color, and the My Lisa Frank Notebook (vodka, serrano-infused mezcal, vanilla, mango shrub, Angostura bitters and, of course, Pink Unicorn Dust and a Unicorn “garnish.”
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Most nights, you’ll discover extra treats like succulent passed hors d’oeuvres and late-night drink specials.
