Sleeping Village

When you open a bar in an otherwise barren strip of the Northwest Side, you’d better have some pretty strong laurels to rest on. This live music and beer joint, a sister bar to The Whistler, is worth the trek. With minimalist design, friendly staff and solid cocktails, Sleeping Village looks to be a welcome pioneer in this liquor desert.

THE DRINK TO DRINK: Beer—thanks to a fool-proof menu (beers are categorized by style, rather than region), it’s pretty easy to explore options.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: While it’s open from 11 a.m. as a café, the place comes alive after dark on the weekends with an eclectic assortment of musical talent. Pay the cover, and support the arts.
