WHY HERE: One of the oldest family-owned Irish bars still operating in Manhattan, it did relocate once: in 1936. Regulars have been coming here literally forever, but newcomers are happily welcomed to enjoy a beer from one of 13 taps, including Guinness, or a dram of the extensive Irish (and Scotch and American) whisk(e)y roster. The founder’s grandson, James “Jamo” McManus, can still be found at the bar most days.
WHY NOW: Winner of the 2016 Battle of the Burger, McManus has Monday drink specials and Sunday Night Bingo. It has been featured in many movies, from Woody Allen’s “Radio Days” to Edward Norton’s “Keeping the Faith,” as well as iconic shows like “Seinfeld,” “Law & Order,” “Saturday Night Live” and “Broad City.” Also, each passing year brings a new fight with thirsty landlords. #SaveMcManus
