Open August 30, Old Devil Moon is a laid-back, spacious neighborhood hangout in Outer Mission at the edge of Bernal Heights, with a charming back patio, Nola flair (candles, skulls), a fireplace and massive po’boys. This is a beer geek’s haven in everyman skin. Twenty rotating beer taps are served sans attitude from a staff boasting no less than three cicerones.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Mint Juleps flow on tap, and house cocktails (like the Alcachofa, made with reposado tequila, Cynar and grapefruit bitters) sit alongside classics like the ’Ti Punch. Among the ever-changing draft beers, there are rarities and direct-from-brewery kegs, like Almanac Beer Co.’s rare Truthful Statement bourbon-barrel dark sour.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Po’boys are massive, filling and delicious, with ingredients sourced from nearby neighbors (like Paulie’s Pickling or Avedano’s Meats). Try house specialities like a killer Oysters Rockefeller po’boy with crispy tasso ham and absinthe spinach butter, or a house-made bologna po’boy smothered in yellow mustard onion slaw.
