WHY HERE: A relative newcomer to Austin’s East Texas scene, Nickel City opened with the intent of blending right in. There’s no flashy décor, no fancy concept—just good drinks (the word “cocktail” isn’t even allowed on the menu), a great whiskey and brandy list, and a linoleum floor that has seen it all.
WHY NOW: All we want from Austin is a bar to go to when we are happy or sad or just want a glass of whiskey—and a hot dog and chili fries. That’s it. This is the place.
