Located directly across from Wrigley Field in the boutique Hotel Zachary, Mordecai is a full-service cocktail bar whose dual floors serve the two crowds the neighborhood draws best: rough ’n’ rowdy Cubs fans (ground-floor entry) and velvet-roped club hoppers (upstairs). Drinks are above par for the neighborhood thanks to Alex Bachman, whose opening stint at Billy Sunday drew critical acclaim. Known for sneaking elevated ingredients into ordinary cocktails, Bachman fortunately didn’t water anything down for Wrigley.

THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Improved Shandy, made with Baltic porter, ginger beer, bourbon and lemon

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: If your schedule allows it, stay for supper by Michelin-starred chef Jared Wentworth (Longman & Eagle).
