A second mezcal bar in D.C.? That’s right, because apparently we can’t get enough of the stuff. Say hello to Mezcalero, located in Columbia Heights about half a mile north of the neighborhood’s Metro stop. The concept comes from chef Alfredo Solis, and at its core, the joint is a food-driven, locals-friendly hangout. But oh, that mezcal. Beverage director Arturo Zaloga has put together a list of between 50 and 70 mezcals and strives to keep them all as affordably priced as he can.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The El Canalero is a signature drink worth sampling, somehow making the combination of Mezcal Los Siete Misterios, cinnamon, basil, jalapeño and lemon work together seamlessly.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Expect the mezcal list to continue growing as space and availability allow, with more offerings, such as curated mezcal flights, also on the way.
