It’s not a cocktail bar, so just order a beer. The sawdust on the floor and old-school bartenders exude an Irish dive-bar vibe, and beer fumes into the street. But it’s the oldest running saloon in the city—since 1854, according to the sign—and if you come to NYC on a drinking expedition and skip McSorley’s, you have failed.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: House ale, light or dark. No craft brews here.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Cash only. We’ve heard good things about the food, including the cheese and onion plate and the generous bowls of chili.
