Lord George is not new. The South Park bar opened in 2015 with the unofficial tagline of “cocktails, oysters and mischief,” deftly run by owners Ezra Berman and Miles Palliser. But they’ve just launched a new concept, Mavericks, worth heading out for. This April, they debuted with an enchanting Alice in Wonderland theme from Portland bartender Kate Bolton’s menu. The current theme from rotating guest bartenders is Summer Road Trip by Andrew Calisterio of Whitechapel and the NorCal brand ambassador for House Spirits.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Calisterio’s menu is easy-drinking fun across the U.S. with a road trip map that includes the Boilermaker-inspired Texas Twostep (a shot of Ancho Reyes chile liqueur and Espolòn tequila in a boot with a Buffalo Trace whiskey and Topo Chico Highball). The most irresistible drink just might be the Philly Float, a root-beer-float-like delight of aquavit, root beer and vanilla-infused cream.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Charcuterie, cheese, bar bites and oysters are all on the menu. But call on The Lord’s Platter with a few friends to dive into a shimmering seafood tower of 24 oysters, 12 plump gulf prawns and tuna tartare. Even better: LG donates 50 cents of every Maverick cocktail sold to the guest bartender’s charity of choice.
