Tucked off the lobby of hipster residential building The Lawrence House, Larry’s touts itself as a modern dive bar, serving its hyperlocal crowd distinctly different drinks. Barely 200 square feet, the tiny cocktail den seats less than a dozen and is decorated with tastefully curated vintage insect taxidermy bathed in a neon-red glow. Scoring a stool here feels like holding court in a private club, minus the pretense. Though its style nearly supersedes its substance, Larry’s drinks were designed by professionals (Wade McElroy and Jeff Donahue from Heisler Hospitality’s Sportsman’s Club) and are served with a smile.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Of the nine or so house cocktails, stick with the simpler ones, like the signature Larry’s Old Fashioned made with Elijah Craig bourbon and salted coffee.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Because its liquor license extends throughout the building’s lobby, Larry’s is able to accommodate drinkers who wish to imbibe while making themselves at home on a nearby couch.
