What hasn’t a speakeasy been hidden behind yet? Why a trendy Mexican deli in Williamsburg, of course. The working deli offers classic and upgraded south-of-the-border foodstuffs like chorizo, prickly pear and house-made sauces from Felipe Mendez (La Superior). Get ushered in through the freezer door in the rear of the store, and you’ll find a PDT-like agave-focused bar with a dash of fun. Multi-toned wood walls play off a Mexican tile floor and colorful seating, while a disco ball, vintage jukebox and state-of-the art sound system let you know you can let your hair down (Mendez is also a DJ).
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Tequila and hard-to-find mezcals rule the roost here, so expect agave-fueled riffs on Negronis, Old Fashioneds and Moscow Mules. But the Margarita variations are where it’s at. Consider the Margarita Jamaica (tequila, hibiscus tea, Cointreau, orange bitters and lime).
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The bar is small (seats 25), and reservations (by phone) are required.
