Under an elegant punched tin ceiling, cocktail maker extraordinaire Chris McMillian helms a sweeping, consistently busy bar at the bubbly Kingfish, pouring drinks that keep one foot firmly planted in New Orleans’ rich imbibing past. A massive black-and-white photo of the Kingfish himself (former Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long) looms large across from the bar, as tipplers choose from a range of cocktail classics and simple, satisfying new favorites like the French Pearl, which combines gin, lemon, Herbsaint and mint.
The Drink to Drink: While a little more Italy than New Orleans, the Milano Torino is a bitter delight that brings together Campari, Carpano Antica and Martini & Rossi Sweet Vermouth.
Know Before You Go: The bar area is narrow and can get cramped with diners making their way through to their tables. Best to visit in pairs or (very) small groups.
