When you’re feeling a little irie and want to head to Jamaica, pop down to Hyde Park. Ja’ Grill offers an authentic Jamaican experience, from the jerk chicken and curry goat made by a chef from Ocho Rios to the natural fruit-infused Ja’ Rum Punch and the DJ-spun reggae at night. Owner Tony Coates and beverage director Alex Fowler constantly research rums to add to their growing list of about 50. The cocktail menu offers 12 island-based rum drinks and to introduce new rums, Ja’ Grill offers $5 classic Daiquiris every Tuesday to showcase new recipes.
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
The Ja’ Rum Punch is the number one seller, with Appleton White Rum, Malibu Coconut Rum and Myers’s Dark Rum with fresh tropical juices. Coates says to substitute Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum for a true island feel.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Beverage director Alex Fowler hosts free instructive rum tastings each Tuesday night from 6 to 8 at the restaurant’s 14-seat communal table. Call to reserve.
