A somewhat newer player on Hubbard Street, Henry's, from DMK Restaurants owners chef Michael Kornick and David Morton and inspired by a line in a John Lee Hooker song, is a departure from the large, sceney River North vibe. Henry’s offers a more laid back, whimsical atmosphere with free pool tables, board games, comfortable nooks and even a brand-new, lower-level space dubbed the Rec Room. There, you order bottled drinks made with house-made flavor-infused vodka (raspberry, vanilla bean) at a walk-up, cash-only window. Pop in after work for the carbonated draft Pocket Watch (a riff on a Moscow Mule that adds Campari) or frozen cocktails or come late-night for a great dance party and a huge selection of cheap sliders and tacos.
THE DRINK TO DRINK When the mercury spikes, you'll want to order the Hemline, a swizzled drink with Tito's Vodka, Aperol, lime and house-made grapefruit bitters, served over crushed ice with a sprig of mint.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Henry's offers free live music on Tuesday evenings and free comedy shows in the Rec Room on Sundays. There's more to this place than just drinks.
