Trevor Frye has been a staple of the D.C. bar community for years, so when it came time for him to open his first spot, you knew he was going to go big. The result is Five to One, an ambitious operation dedicated to both music and the local neighborhood, with a constantly changing “set list” of three cocktails inspired by the headlining artist at the adjacent 9:30 club. There’s also a regular menu comprised of originals and “covers”—recipes from other bartenders. And there’s always a uniquely paired Boilermaker on the menu, because it’s never a bad choice to get a shot and a beer.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Neighborhood Watch, named in homage to Frye’s favorite Dilated Peoples song, with Rujero singani, Copper & Kings brandy, Aperol, Amaro Montenegro and fresh lime juice.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: There’s a rooftop patio with the jumpin’ vibe of a summer house party. Needless to say, it gets packed on warm nights.
