It’s worth the trek to Long Island City to indulge in drinks at this pioneering bar. Dutch Kills was one of the first bars to have its own “ice program,” which now showcases a Clinebell machine in the basement that supplies enormous blocks of ice that are chain-sawed down to size. You can’t witness the ice show, but you do get to enjoy a perfectly chilled drink in a perfectly chill environment.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Bartender’s choice. Give them a base spirit, and they’ll get you sorted.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: If you need a break from the tyranny of $14-or-higher craft cocktail prices, happy hour here is Sunday through Thursday, with a menu of $8 drinks.
