District Distilling Co. and head distiller Matt Strickland are making a diverse lineup of spirits, with a beautiful still house they show off on tours and tastings. But be sure to stick around for a drink or two, and some food, because they do it all. Located at the bustling 14th Street and U Street intersection, District Distilling already boasts a lively bar scene, too. There, Said Haddad runs the ship, deploying all of the in-house spirits they’re making, along with other D.C. purveyors and quality craft producers from around the country.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Awaken your palate with the Smolder, a signature cocktail made with Corsair Triple Smoke small-batch American malt whiskey, Clear Creek kirschwasser (cherry brandy), cherry juice, lemon and Himalayan pink salt.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The distillery is open for $10 tours and tastings weekdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 12 to 8 p.m.
