WHY HERE: New Zealand expat Katipai Richardson-Wilson has designed a space that feels as much cozy-industrial neighborhood loft as bar. It’s a charming oasis on a fairly “meh” stretch of street, with sherry always on tap and seven images of ponies hidden around the bar. Plus, there’s a cocktail every month for which a dollar goes toward a good cause.
WHY NOW: There aren’t many bars in the area with a cozy back room, perfect for date nights or small parties. And Richardson-Wilson claims the industrial-modern bathroom makes for “excellent selfies, as evidenced by the geotags on Instagram.”
