Two-story, 10,000-square-foot Coin-Op Game Room opened in December 2016, a sister to the original Coin-Op Game Room in San Diego but very much its own place. Classic arcade games (like Donkey Kong, Street Fighter and Pac-Man Royale) are common between the two locations, while in S.F., the massive space features a modernistic science lab bar, The Octagon, and a soon-to-open, reservations-only cocktail haven, The Grid at Tron (inspired by the movie Tron).
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Bar manager Jason Huffman’s drinks go down easy as they also delight cocktail fans. Try to resist the refreshing tequila–mezcal combo (steeped with chiles and white pepper) of the Konami Code, balanced by amaretto and lime.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Sixteen beers on tap represent California, from San Diego to Sacramento, while The Octagon focuses on bottled ciders and sherry. On the food side, look for pizzas (try the sausage- and meatball-laden Carnivore), pierogis, carbonara mac and cheese, and a ridiculously good burger.
