Located deep in the heart of the 7th Ward, Bullet’s was the longtime home of blues legend Kermit Ruffins on Tuesday nights. It now features a rotating selection of guests on the horns, piano and trumpet throughout the week. (If you don’t come prepared to dance, don’t come at all.) The bar also offers the local drinking tradition “the setup,” in which a half pint of liquor, bucket of ice, and mixer of choice are presented to the imbiber for sipping on all night while two-stepping to the music.
Know Before You Go: The bar is cash only—as is the food being cooked outside. Arrive on an empty stomach with greenbacks in pocket or purse.
