Broken Record has been the Excelsior’s best dive bar since 2007—and a whisk(e)y destination with more than 250 whiskies in all categories. It’s cash-only and prices have remained some of the better deals in town: There are plenty of $5 to $8 whiskey pours, if you are looking for value. You can also find special sips like Four Roses Reserve 2011 and Michter’s 10 year bourbon. Play a round of pool inside or cards on the covered back patio.
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
It’s all about neat pours but the Record turns out plenty of bourbon Old Fashioneds, Manhattans and whiskey-cocktail classics.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Hood Grub cooks food nightly in Broken Record’s back kitchen—think tater-tot poutine and corned beef sandwiches—plus for Sunday brunch (beer-battered Nutella-stuffed French toast!).
