Bear Vs. Bull

Bear Vs. Bull

Isaac Shumway (who made the revamped Tosca Cafe bar worth visiting) has worked his magic at brand new Alamo Drafthouse bar Bear Vs. Bull, serving cocktails that (finally) up the drinks game in a movie theater. But you can hit the dim, red and gold-toned bar with its cool, ’70s-meets-old-movie-house vibe any time between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. without even having to watch a movie. Pull up a retro black bar chair to drink from 28 beers on tap, small-production California wines or a Far Eastern Nitro gimlet with house-made lime cordial on draft.

THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Surf Club Mangareva gives off a tropical vibe with a mint garnish and mug but features St. George apple brandy (a selected house barrel) as the base, mixed with honey, coconut-washed Cointreau and lime over cracked ice.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: You can order from Shumway’s drink menu in each theater or bring in Bear Vs. Bull cocktails from the bar. The food is also quite good with massive bowls of gourmet just-popped kimchi popcorn, ideal paired with a boozy, stout rum raisin milkshake.
