Bar Fortuna

Bar Fortuna

Tucked away in the recesses of the well-regarded West Village newcomer and Italian joint Casa Apicii is this comfortable nook. Emphasizing Italian bitters and apéritifs, the bar feels like you’ve snuck into the off-limits private library of a mansion during a fundraiser. Head bartender Fabio Raffaelli spent serious time in hospitality programs across Europe before diving into NYC’s fine-dining scene in 2009.

THE DRINK TO DRINK: There is no shortage of slightly-off-the-beaten path classics, but you should check out the Sours selections. The Rabarbaro is made with Zucca (a rhubarb-based apéritif), rose cordial, lemon juice, egg white and Creole bitters.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The bar boasts one of the city’s biggest grappa and Italian spirits menus. Don’t knock grappa before you’ve sampled some of the special selections from northern Italy’s Nonino label.
