Opened at the end of 2016 in the alley a stone’s throw from locale favorite Irish Bank, Bar Fluxus is not just a bar. It’s an intimate live entertainment venue from industry vets Michael “Spike” Krouse (Madrone Art Bar, Pop’s), Ludo Racinet (former owner of Tunnel Top) and Jean Michel Fabregon (Tunnel Top). The quirky interior—lined with graffiti and whimsical art, with comfy couches, bright colors and centered by a baby grand—hosts everything from comedy nights to Latin Vibe Tuesdays (yes, you can dance).

THE DRINK TO DRINK: Partners Matt Grippo (Blackbird) and Shirley Brooks (Madrone) created a whimsical drink menu that steps up what is usually available at live music venues in drinks like the Green Juice, an almost healthy-tasting mix of vodka, Chareau aloe liqueur, fresh aloe juice, lime and honey, or the vibrant Yoko’s Cocoa, combining dark rum, passion fruit, cacao and lemon.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Fluxus refers to a 1961 lecture series by George Maciunas, defined as an artistic state of mind that was free, playful and fun. Fluxus artists included George Brecht and Yoko Ono.
