Taking over the beloved Flipper’s Burgers space next door in March, Anina is run by owners Matt Conway, Anthony Healy-London and Josh McAdam of neighboring Brass Tacks. Where Brass Tacks is dim and chill, Anina is breezy and bright, down to the sunny patio enclosed in a teal blue fence. That sunny feel continues with tropical flower murals and Moroccan tiles leading to beer-garden-esque communal tables outside. (Note: The patio closes earlier than the interior bar.)
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The namesake Anina is the aperitivo standout, deftly combining Amara amaro, St. George Bruto Americano and Cappelletti with lime. On the general cocktail menu, the Lucila (named after Argentinean artist Lucila Dominguez, who painted the bar’s murals) is a bright, earthy sipper of mezcal, lime, pineapple gum syrup and Combier Crème de Pamplemousse Rose liqueur.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: In keeping with the breezy feel, there are Spritz and aperitivo menu sections, along with punch bowls for groups. There is no food, so eat up along Hayes Street before heading over to drink.
