It’s not hard to tell what most Scotch-lovers are thinking right now: Why do you need to throw together a quick whisky drink if you can just sip it neat or with a couple of drops of water?
A valid question. But remember this: Not everyone is in a passionate love affair with peated whisky. And an easy-to-make Scotch cocktail is a great way to convince those would-be doubters. It’s also healthy to step out of your “neat” comfort zone every now and then.
The next time you find yourself with a mixable bottle of Scotch, try one of these absurdly simple drinks.
Ever tried a Boulevardier? This single malt–spiked spin uses nearly the same recipe as that bourbon cocktail, with one important difference: The sweet and herbal Campari is swapped for its sister liqueur, the artichoke-flavored Cynar (pronounced chee-nar). No, it’s not a sin to indulge in more than one.
‘Tis the season of sore throats and ever-dropping temperatures. Remedy both with this steaming cocktail. Add boiling water, sugar and lemon to the Scotch base and you’ve got a fool-proof cure-all. (And if it doesn’t cure all your ailments, perhaps it’s time to visit a doctor.)
Think you know the booze?
Let’s start with some basics.
