Shake all ingredients with ice, strain and serve neat in a double rocks glass. Garnish with a mounted lemon peel.
*Aromatic wine syrup: In a saucepan, combine 3 cups of red wine, 1 cup of white sugar, 5 to 6 sprigs of sage and 5 to 6 sprigs of lemon thyme. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, simmering until thick and reduced by a third. Let cool, bottle in clear glass, and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
