“Turmeric really balances the sweetness of the other ingredients, and its spice complements the Ceylon cinnamon beautifully,” says Anna Maceda, the co-owner and bar manager of Grand Army Tavern in Portland, Oregon. “Turmeric also has a ton of health benefits thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, and I think a cocktail can be somewhat healthy, too.”
- 1 1/2 ounces tequila
- 1 1/2 ounces grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 ounce cinnamon syrup
- 1/4 ounce turmeric tea*
- Soda water, to top
- Garnish: grapefruit twist
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice.
Top with the soda water.
Garnish with a grapefruit twist.
*Turmeric tea: Add 1 tsp ground turmeric powder and 2 cups water to a medium pan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, then strain.
