Great rye whiskey can turn a standard Sazerac into something incredible. That’s why this recipe specifically calls for Jack Daniel’s Tennessee rye, which is made with Jack’s signature charcoal mellowing process and a 70 percent rye grain bill. It’s the only way to make a Sazerac this spicy and smooth.
- Absinthe, to rinse
- 2 oz Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye whiskey
- 1/2 oz Simple syrup
- 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
- Garnish: Lemon twist
Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe, discarding any excess, and set aside.
Add remaining ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
Strain into the absinthe-rinsed glass.
Twist a lemon peel over the surface of the glass to express the oils.
Drop the lemon twist into the glass to garnish.
