The Hemingway Daiquiri cocktail is inspired, not created, by Ernest Hemingway. This classic rum cocktail is sometimes called the Papa Doble, after the author. Hemingway's original request for a Daiquiri made with no sugar and double the booze created an unbalanced drink, which bartenders eventually corrected through the addition of maraschino liqueur and grapefruit juice.

To reinstate some of Hemingway's influence, this variation on the standard recipe is served over crushed ice, as the earliest Daiquiris were.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
  • Garnish: lime wheel

Steps

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well chilled.

  2. Strain into a coupe glass over crushed ice.

  3. Garnish with a lime wheel.
