Contributed by Sarah Smith, Putnam’s Pub & Cooker
This cocktail was created by Sarah Smith at Putnam’s Pub for Cognac Classics Week, presented by Liquor.com and Hennessy VSOP Privilège.
Rinse an Old Fashioned glass with the Chartreuse, discarding any excess, and set aside.
Add the cognac, molasses syrup and bitters to a mixing glass, and fill with ice.
Stir and strain into the prepared glass.
Flame the lemon peel over the surface of the drink, then drop into the glass.
*Molasses syrup: Add half a cup of boiling water and half a cup of molasses to a bowl, and stir until combined. Let the syrup cool; it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
