Misty Kalkofen
Misty Kalkofen is an author, spirits educator, and former bartender with over 20 years of industry experience. She specializes in agave spirits.
Experience
Kalkofen first stepped behind the bar while studying theology at Harvard Divinity School and soon realized what most excited her about the Bible was the passage in which Jesus turns water into wine. Spending over twenty years honing her craft, she has been featured in Bon Appétit, Imbibe, Food & Wine, Wine Enthusiast, the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, Tasting Panel, Wine & Spirits, and more.
In 2013, Kalkofen decided to focus her attention on her love for all things agave and joined the team of Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal. Acting as a cultural liaison between the Del Maguey family in Oaxaca and the U.S. hospitality community, she managed the Del Maguey loyalty program that provided immersive educational experiences for the trade and Del Maguey’s distributor partners.
Currently, Kalkofen is spreading the agave gospel as an educational consultant. She founded the Boston chapter of Ladies United for the Preservation of the Endangered Cocktail (LUPEC), fulfilling her desire to “cocktail for a cause.” Since then, LUPEC has raised more than $40,000 for local Boston women’s charities. In 2018, she coauthored her first book with Kirsten Amann, Drinking Like Ladies and in spring of 2020 they launched a podcast of the same title.
