“Galliano is a very unique blend of flavors conveniently contained in one bottle,” says Will Benedetto, the beverage director for IGC Hospitality Group in New York City. When using it in shaken drinks, he advises to make them “bright and dynamic with lots of acid and fresh product.” That’s certainly a good way of describing this South-of-the-Border cocktail inspired by the disco classic.
“I love Galliano with various combinations of lemon and agave spirit,” says Benedetto. “The tartness of fresh lemon juice or even just lemon zest helps unpack its rich flavors.”
- 1 ounce Ilegal joven mezcal
- 1 ounce Galliano
- 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 ounce spiced honey syrup*
- Garnish: lemon twist
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
Strain into a chilled flute.
Garnish with a lemon twist.
*Spiced honey syrup: Add 1/2 cup water, 1 cinnamon stick and 2 cloves to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, remove from heat, and let steep for 10 minutes.
