To make this tropical-leaning cocktail, Matt Young, the general manager at Cure in New Orleans, goes global, combining boozy elements from multiple continents in the shaker: tawny port, a botanical Czech liqueur, a cachaça with pronounced notes of warm baking spices, and a notably funky Jamaican rum.
“Many classic Tiki cocktails use baking spices, and Becherovka shares many of those aromatics,” Young says. “Port works nicely with the botanicals in the Czech herbal liqueur, as does Amburana-wood-aged cachaca, with its dusty, cinnamon-y characteristics.” So in it all goes, creating a round-the-world port sour when shaken with lime juice and simple syrup.
