Bodegas Torres Essential Facts
Torres has been crafting brandy since 1928, when Juan Torres Casals began aging his distilled wines. Although Torres is a modern and progressive company in many ways, committed to sustainable farming practices and early adopters of technology, the family has a strong heritage and abides by the values of past generations. Torres is a family owned and run wine and spirits company, as it has been for five generations. Spanish brandy has a long tradition dating to the 13th century when alchemist Arnau de Vilanova distilled the first brandies in the court of Pedro II, Count of Barcelona. Torres has been crafting brandy since 1928, when Juan Torres Casals began aging his distilled wines. His son, Miguel Torres Carbó is credited with introducing Torres 10 and is a legend for his courageous act of rescuing barrels of brandy from ruin during the January 20, 1939 bombing of the winery during the Spanish Civil War. Today, this tradition of excellence in spirits distilling is continued by our Master Distiller, Matias Llobet Vallve, who has been crafting Torres brandies for over 30 years. Torres brandies are made from high quality grape varietals, many of which are used in the production of sparkling cava, double distilled in copper pot stills, and then aged in oak barrels. The solera system is used for aging Torres 10, Torres 15 and Jaime I. Torres 20 is aged in French oak barrels using the static system. Torres Magdala Orange Liqueur is macerated with a blend of Valencia and Mediterranean orange peels, herbs and spices. Torres brandies are made with the utmost respect for tradition and have earned international critical acclaim. Here at Torres we firmly believe that it is more than time for a new appreciation of what is one of the great original spirits – Brandy. We say that – IT IS BRANDY’S TURN!!!
