Two X-Files-Approved Cocktails for the New Season

It’s been over thirteen years since The X-Files went off the air, but the show’s reputation has only continued to grow. Fans of the sci-fi pop culture phenomenon have long hoped for a new season, posting rumors across the internet and poring over evidence in smoky dorm rooms around the nation.

With the announcement of the January 24th premiere, the wait is over.

The “six-episode event,” will see the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, not to mention The Lone Gunmen, the mysterious Assistant Director Walter Skinner, and of course, The Truth reprising its iconic role as Out There.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t reveal how much, if any, of the show’s new incarnation will be spent chasing hunches through foggy hamlets around the Pacific Northwest, but it does appear to play to one of the series’ strongest suits: channeling the paranoias, concerns and headlines of the day into an engrossing twilight world in which FBI agents rely on their flash lights as often as their side pieces.

Once you’ve dusted off your “I Want To Believe” poster and grabbed some snacks (like Mulder’s go-to sunflower seeds), all that’s left for the premiere is drinks.

Are you an analytical skeptic with a background in physics and medicine? Or are you more of a loose cannon, a follows-his-gut genius always willing to entertain even the most ludicrous theories in pursuit of the larger truth? Either way, we’ve got a cocktail for you.

The Dana Scully is a smoky, spirit-forward sipper. Like its namesake agent, the Mezcal, Cynar, Cointreau and raspberry liqueur creation is a striking burnt vermillion. It’s a no-nonsense recipe for a no-nonsense agent. Stir one up and feel your powers of observation and analytics sharpen. Try another, and feel your stoic skepticism begin to weaken…

Which brings us to the Fox Mulder, a classic Whiskey Sour with a pineapple twist. A Green Chartreuse float gives the drink an ethereal appearance, but the high-proof, medicinal bite keeps it grounded. This one will make you want to believe.
