It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a diet full of vegetables can help you live longer. What might be a surprise? A glass of wine per day may help too.
The world’s oldest man celebrated his 113th birthday this week. Francisco Nunez Olivera said he attributes his long life to a diet of homegrown vegetables and a daily glass of red wine.
The former farmer, who is said to be in good health according to his daughter, became the world’s oldest man after the death of Polish-born Israeli Yisrael Kristal on August 11. He currently lives in Spain and has four children, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandkids.
Nunez isn’t the only person to include alcohol in their path to longevity. This 100-year-old also claims wine as her secret, and this 111-year-old attributes his long life to whiskey and cigars. We’ll cheers to that.
