Attention horse-racing fanatics and bourbon cocktail lovers: Now you can own a collectible Mint Julep cup that’s an artistic reflection of the drink’s most famous venue, the Kentucky Derby. But be prepared to pay a pretty penny for your collectible memories. The 2017 edition of Woodford Reserve’s limited-edition trinkets is selling for $1,000 a pop.
But this is no simple silver cup. These masterpieces boast gold-plated detailing that pays homage to Eadweard Muybridge’s landmark “horse-in motion” film, plus a gold-plated sipping straw and a silk pouch to represent the “purse” of winnings given to race’s victor.
Proceeds from the sale of this year’s run of 105 cups will benefit the nonprofit Kentucky Derby Museum, which preserves the history and tradition of American horse-racing’s most famous race. Buyers will also enjoy access to the Woodford Reserve $1,000 Mint Julep Tent at Churchill Downs on Derby Day.
To claim your cup—or upgrade to an even more exclusive gold-plated $2,500 version—visit the Woodford site.
