In what is definitely the best thing we’ve heard all week, new research shows that if you want to live into your 90s, moderate alcohol consumption actually beats exercise.
University of California neurologist Claudia Kawas tracked 1,700 people in their 90s beginning in 2003 to examine how certain daily habits affected longevity. Those that drank about two glasses of beer or wine per day were 18 percent less likely to experience a premature death, according to the research. Subjects who exercised 15 to 45 minutes per day only reduced the same risk by 11 percent.
Additionally, participants who were slightly overweight cut their odds by 3 percent, and those who drank two cups of coffee a day cut their risk by 10 percent. We’ll drink to that.
