First, Metallica announced its Blackened American whiskey. Then Conor McGregor released his Proper No. Twelve whiskey. Now,  U2’s Bono has emerged as one of the named investors in a recently proposed Irish whiskey distillery.

Considering his Irish roots, it’s no surprise Bono chose to invest in such a project. Set to open in County Kildare, Ireland, Irish businessman and property manager Paddy McKillen proposed the $58.5 million distillery early last week. McKillen plans to restore a 200-year-old mill in Monasterevin.

A town with a rich heritage of whiskey distilling, Monasterevin was once home to Cassidy’s distillery, opened in 1784 and closed in 1921. Now, almost 100 years later, McKillen intends to revive Monasterevin’s whiskey legacy. Renovations will include an an artisan distillery equipped with tasting rooms, a visitor center and various exhibition spaces.

Plans for the distillery are still in development, but the proposal could mean another celebrity-backed booze brand in the near future.
