Spirited Bastille-Day Drinks

After the Fourth of July hot dogs and watermelon have been finished and the fireworks displays are done, there is an inevitable letdown. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop celebrating independence.

Tomorrow is actually your next chance: Bastille Day. The holiday commemorates the storming of a Parisian military prison, a crucial event of the French Revolution. And you can observe the occasion by picking up a fine French spirit and enjoying a delicious drink.

Try making the Dubonnet Cocktail, which features a traditional fortified wine that helped the French Foreign Legion fight malaria, or La Tour Eiffel, conceived by acclaimed writer and Liquor.com advisory board member Gary Regan.

Another of our modern favorites is the simple and refreshing Green Beast (pictured above), which calls for Pernod Absinthe, fresh lime juice, water and cucumber slices. Watch our short How to Cocktail video of talented bartender and Liquor.com advisory board member Simon Ford fixing the punch.

If only Marie Antoinette had given out glasses of this concoction, she might have cooled the flames of the Revolution…
