Holiday Gift Guide: North American Whiskey

Like a storm on the horizon, the holiday season—along with all the highs and lows it entails—starts in only 72 hours. Yes, 72 hours.

Fall has once again just whizzed by, and if you find yourself in the familiar position of struggling to find the perfect spirited beverage for Thanksgiving while also having a list of holiday gifts you suddenly need to buy for your friends and family, we have a simple and elegant solution to your problems: bourbon.

The delicious spirit is, of course, more than appropriate to serve on Thursday, since the only place it can be made is in the United States. And while we like to sip it neat or on the rocks, the liquor works in a range of delicious cocktails, including the Bourbon Rickey, the Brown Derby and the classic Old Fashioned, which all would be wonderful to make before the big meal (or after, while you’re digesting and watching football).

And to help you pick a great American whiskey to serve or give as a present, we asked Chuck Cowdery, author of Bourbon, Straight: The Uncut and Unfiltered Story of American Whiskey, for his favorite five bottles. They’re so good, you may want to buy them for yourself. Happy Holidays!
