It’s May, and we’re officially dreaming exclusively about hot summer days and tasty warm weather beverages. Last year, we saw the popularity of the Moscow Mule continue to explode, with ’Merican Mule selling ready-to-drink Moscow Mules in a can. While we’re seeing even more companies jump in on the cocktails-in-a-can game, a popular brewery is trying a new twist.
San Diego-based Ballast Point released Moscow Mule Ale this week, the brewery’s first nationally distributed cocktail-inspired beer. The limited-edition brew is flavored with lime zest and ginger in a kettle-soured base beer, giving it a tart and refreshing finish.
The brew clocks in at 10 percent ABV and is now rolling out nationwide in both draft and 12-ounce bottles through July.
“The brewers at our Little Italy R&D brewery developed the Moscow Mule Ale after testing out a number of other cocktail-inspired brews like the Old Fashioned and Irish Coffee,” said Aaron Justus, the director of R&D/specialty brewing in a press release. “The Moscow Mule Ale was a runaway favorite among the team and our tasting room customers, making it an easy decision to share it with the rest of the country.”
An Old Fashioned–inspired beer? That’s one we definitely want to try next.
